Los Angeles, The City of Angels! From stunning beaches to rich cultural experiences, let’s explore some of the best destinations to soak up the sun and sizzling memories this summer.
1. El Matador Beach
Along the Malibu coast, El Matador Beach is Heaven on Earth for those wishing to escape the crowd. It's a private paradise (with perhaps a couple more people). It's a hike to get to it. The dramatic cliffs and unique rock formations create a striking backdrop for a day of sun or a gorgeous sunset.

Unlike Santa Monica, Venice and Zuma Beach, El Matador is less frequented, allowing for meditation and reflection by the ocean. Visitors can pack a picnic and listen to the relaxing sounds of the waves, or venture at low tide to explore tide pools full of colorful marine life.
Photographers find plenty of inspiration here, especially during sunset when the golden light embraces the landscape. I've seen many-a-wedding/engagement photos shot here. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes for a short hike down the rocky paths leading to the beach.
2. The Getty Villa
For a rich cultural experience, The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades is a fun trip! Must visit. This museum is dedicated to the art and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. With impressive architecture and tranquil gardens, the Getty Villa is boujee by osmosis.

Admission is free, but be sure to make advanced reservations. Visitors can spend hours exploring the gardens and engaging with exhibitions featuring ancient artifacts. Each year, the Villa hosts unique temporary exhibits that shine light on ancient civilizations.
Tip: Pack a picnic or light lunch to enjoy in the gardens. Dining amidst stunning scenery makes the experience even more delightful.
3. Descanso Gardens
One of the greatest botanical gardens in the world, Descanso has every annual & perennial, redwoods, a camelia forest & trains! If you want to explore a real gem in LA, take the 2 freeway and spend a day in the foothills. Montrose, fine dining, and Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge make this all worth a visit. Spanning over 150 acres, this botanical garden boasts an extensive collection of plants and beautiful walking paths in the mountains.

As you make your way through the garden, look out for the themed areas, each offering a unique energy. I like the ancient forest, rose garden and Japanese Garden. The Rose Garden is particularly breathtaking in summer, with thousands of flowers blooming in a variety of colors and fragrances.
Don’t forget your camera, as there are lots of photo opportunities. During the summer, the garden often features outdoor concerts, art installations, and workshops that can inspire your creativity while connecting you to nature.
Embrace the Summer Day in Los Angeles
Los Angeles is rich in hidden gems that enhance your summer adventures beyond Hollywood & Highland. Whether you want to touch the stars or relax on the shores of El Matador, immerse yourself in ancient cultures at The Getty Villa, or find tranquility in the beautiful landscapes of Descanso Gardens, each destination is a great location for you.
Be it as a local resident or a visitor exploring the city, these dreamy spots invite you to embrace the essence of summer in Los Angeles. So, grab that sunblock, pack yo' snacks, and set out to discover fun this summer.
